SOCCER
Zack Simmons ’09

Hometown: Durham, New Hampshire

(UMass Amherst Men's Soccer)
Simmons owns nearly every UMass goalkeeping record with a chance this year to break the record for career goals against average. As a junior, he led the Minutemen to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA College Cup in 2007 after a historic postseason run. The team lost 1-0 to Ohio State despite Simmons’ six saves. His stellar play was recognized early in 2008 when he was named the UMBRO/Soccer News Net National Player of the Year, which honors the top men’s soccer player in the country.

Simmons was named the national Academic All-American of the year by ESPN magazine. He was also voted to the Academic All-American first team.
