Go Forth!

There was the usual blend of hilarity and pride, nostalgia and relief as some 4,000 graduates of the Class of 2002 marked the end of four years here in late May. But there was more than the usual measure of seriousness too. After all, their senior year had begun with the cataclysm of September 11. Addressing the celebration was attorney Kenneth R. Feinberg ’67, who is not only a UMass alumnus, but special master of the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund. As departing chancellor Marcellette Williams told the graduates: "In the end, it is your courage that is the conduit to allow light to enter the world. Go forth and live grand, impossible dreams."
