Information technology gets a minor

When times are tough, the tough get innovative. An interdisciplinary undergraduate minor in information technology begins this fall, the university’s first campuswide, interdisciplinary minor. The hope is that it will give the biggest possible bang for everyone’s buck.

Starting small with 50-75 upperclass students, the program makes use of faculty from many fields – among them art, communication, English, business, natural resources and economics – and so will not draw on any new university resources. Says Provost Charlena Seymour, "This program creatively expands the university’s ability to stay ahead of the curve in the ever-evolving world of information technology."

Students take a minimum of 15 credits comprising core technical courses as well as one on the social issues of technology. Electives include Internet marketing and computer animation.
