FOOTBALL COACH MARK WHIPPLE, softball Coach Elaine Sortino and Hockey Coach Don “Toot” Cahoon were honored at the association’s Salute to UMass Athletics on September 29 at The Colonnade Hotel in Boston. Bob Behler, “Voice of the UMass Minutemen,” was master of ceremonies. Speakers included Association President Jess Kane ’70, Chancellor John V. Lombardi and UMass President Jack Wilson. A silent auction, featuring such items as an autographed set of Muhammad Ali Everlast Boxing Gloves, an autographed picture of the 1980 USA Miracle on Ice Hockey Team and a stay at the Omni Parker House raised over $14,000 for the association. Thanks to those listed at left for their generous donations to the silent auction. The event was co-sponsored by the Coca Cola Bottling Company of New England.
