JOURNALISM MAJOR MICHAEL GISICK ’04 sends greetings from Syria, and from the 12th century crusader castle, Krak des Chevaliers. Gisick is studying the culture and language of the Middle East, part of a distance learning experience supervised by Journalism Chair Norman Sims. Writing from Internet cafes in Beirut and Damascus, Gisick e-mails reports and photos of his activities – including learning Arabic, observing the culture, and compiling a journal. Hoping to place several articles, he maintains almost daily contact with Sims and Online Journalism Instructor Art Clifford. Gisick left Amherst in September and hopes to return in the spring of ’04 to graduate. |
