Message from the President

Jess Kane
UMass Amherst Alumni Association president, Jess Kane.
THERE IS NO BETTER TIME TO home to UMass Amherst than during the fall. Students are back on campus, residence hall rooms have been personalized with momentos from home, every computer terminal in the W.E. B. Du Bois Library is occupied, and the leaves over the campus pond are beginning to change colors. The Alumni Association welcomed the Class of 2008 into the UMass Amherst family earlier this month at “Minutemania.” Now they are ready to call UMass Amherst their home.

The Alumni Association staff spent the summer putting finishing touches on the services, programs and events we offer you, our alumni. There is no better time for you to get involved in the life of your alma mater. There are many opportunities for you to reconnect with the campus and fellow alumni this fall. I urge you to come back to campus the weekend of Oct. 29-31 and participate in Homecoming festivities. This year, in addition to MinuteFan Park and the traditional football game, Bill Cosby gives a performance in the Mullins Center. We are also excited to have alumni from all 50 states returning for the weekend for special activities. Other exciting events are the Salute to UMass Athletics and Silent Auction at Fenway Park’s .406 Club on Sept. 30 and Family Day on Oct. 16.

Can’t visit Amherst? Other opportunities for you to connect with the campus this fall include joining the regional alumni club in your area, helping us recruit prospective students through the Alumni Admissions Council, and nominating alumni for this year’s Distinguished Alumni Awards. You may also stay connected by signing up for a lifetime UMass Amherst email address, by registering for a myriad of online services through our website at www.UMassAlumni.com and by joining the Alumni Association.

I hope you will join me in reconnecting with—and “coming home” to—the excitement surrounding our alma mater this fall! As always, if you have any questions about the Alumni Association or if we can be of assistance to you, please contact us at (800) 456-UMASS (8627) or email us at alumni@admin.umass.edu. We enjoy hearing
from you!

Jess Kane ’70
President, UMass Amherst Alumni Association
