UMASS DAY
|
THOSE UMASS T-SHIRTS, BUMPER STICKERS, badges, and caps popping up all over the place in late April were part of a well-coordinated effort to spotlight and build support for the university. As this issue went to press, final plans were being laid for a two-day, system-wide push to showcase the university under the slogan “UMass Powers Massachusetts.” UMass’s $3.5 billion contribution to the state economy was a central theme in the celebration.
Coordinated by alumni clubs and the Act Now campaign, UMass Day events were planned for Saturday April 27 in Springfield, Worcester, Cape Cod, Chelmsford, Franklin, and Boston’s Copley Square. The happenings were to include music, games, and readings by UMass authors, among them President William Bulger at the venerable Boston Public Library. On the previous day, Friday the 26th, alumni and friends were encouraged to wear UMass colors in a public show of spirit and unity.
For those who missed the events but still want to get involved, the Act Now website - www.umass.edu/actnow - offers opportunities to do so. Posters, badges, and bumper stickers are also available either through the website or by contacting the Alumni Association at 800.456.UMASS or www.umassalumni.com. |
