THREE UMASS AMHERST FACULTY AND one alumna have won prestigious Guggenheim fellowships. These awards are given by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation to people who have “demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts.” UMass winners, chosen from among 3,200 applicants, are: Eric M. Beekman, professor of Germanic languages and literature; Neil Immerman, professor of computer science; Max Page, assistant professor of architecture and history in the art department; and Anne Rearick ’82, photographer. The average grant for 2002 was $36,638. Grants permit fellows to take time off to work on their own projects.
