Segway
WHAT IS THAT THING?” Neil Costa ’93 gets asked that question a lot when he’s at work. Costa is an account rep for Segway, which unveiled its high-tech human transporters a couple of years ago to much fanfare. Last fall Costa zipped up and down the hall-ways of the Isenberg School of Management (SOM) on one of the machines and offered rides to the crowds of curious students, faculty and staff that gathered for the demo. Professor Dennis Hanno, who taught Costa when he was an accounting student, beamed with delight after silently gliding through the building on the Segway HT, which is now selling at Amazon.com for $5,000. Like most of those who had a chance to test-ride the Segway, he was smitten. “I want one!” Hanno exclaimed.

THE SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT BUILDING officially added a new wing last fall when the Alfond Center opened its doors for business. The 47,000-square-foot $16 million addition includes four case classrooms, eight “breakout” meeting rooms for small-group discussions, a spacious, 50-foot-high student center, teleconferencing facilities, a computer lab and office space for faculty and staff.
