FOR DICK BRESCIANI ’60, A Red Sox vice president, it’s like being in a good mood that just won’t quit. Everywhere he looks there are reminders of why he’s so happy.

The region glows from October’s happy ending. Every newsstand, convenience store, and gas station in New England seems to be selling some publication with a cover photo of his team celebrating its long-awaited World Series win. Congratulatory billboards and signs greet him wherever he drives. Bresciani has even seen the aftershocks of the team’s first World Series win in 86 years as far away as the West Coast.

“I was just out in California, and they heard I was with the Red Sox,” he says. “There were so many fans, even out there, that were excited about the team.”
Bresciani has worked for the Red Sox since 1972 and is currently vice president for publications and archives. In 2002, he was inducted into the UMass Athletic Hall of Fame for his work in sports information.

“Now people are totally happy. It’s good to see so many people so excited,” he says. “It’s a wonderful feeling to know that so many people believe they’ve reached the ultimate in their rooting for the Red Sox.”
