Durfee Conservatory
Built in 1867 during William Clark’s presidency, the original 5,000-square-foot facility was a thing of beauty; historical photos show an elegant grouping of glass buildings with gently curved roofs bedecked with wrought-iron filigree. Over the years, high winds shattered the glass structures. The present, more practical greenhouses stand beside brick buildings and busy roads.
