Reflection and Action
|
–Carol Cambo, Editor

THE LATE BRAZILIAN EDUCATIONALIST PAULO Freire offered a compelling concept of developing critical consciousness, a cycle of reflection and action with the power to transform reality. We have taken up this type of work here at the magazine during my first year as editor. In reflecting on the publication’s mission and audience, we have taken steps to better serve and represent our readers. The most obvious of our actions is a redesign of the magazine by art director Brian Jenkins. With this issue we come closer to a look and structure that mirrors the forward-thinking orientation of UMass Amherst. Yet, in the spirit of reflection we offer in this issue “Fields of Dreams,” a special section that considers the university’s land-grant roots, and how that legacy informs important scientific research today. Just as Mass Aggie grew to be UMass Amherst, we hope to continue to reflect and act—and grow—in our effort to keep you connected to your alma mater. |
