"Old
City Hall"
by Gerald McLellan
Authorhouse, $29.95.
ISBN: 9781434330918 |
The Governor of the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts finds himself embroiled in a messy, high stakes,
politically charged, divorce case where he is pitted against Attorney
Ted Eldridge, a lawyer whom he has alienated in the past and who
now seeks to bring the Governor down. Genetic markers raise the
question of paternity of Danny, the twelve year old child of the
Governor and his wife Emily, who herself is battling her own demons.
As the case unfolds, the events that involve the Governor and his
paramour, the Judge sitting on his case, and the Italian bookies
in Boston's North End play themselves out in a dramatic, courtroom
whirlwind of controversy and intrigue. The characterizations ring
true and the flaws of the participants are demonstrated in graphic
detail in this suspenseful narrative.
Interwoven in the plot is the heartbreaking revelation of the terrible
inadequacy of the Massachusetts divorce system as related in the
author's action sequences played out in open court and behind closed
doors in the elegant high rises of downtown Boston. The author,
himself a former Massachusetts divorce court judge, expertly
provides a courtroom showcase that is graphic, compelling and
impressively accurate.
What elevates the novel in addition, is the interesting descriptions
of the City of Boston including the financial district, the State
House and Beacon Hill where the action occurs.
Gerald McLellan
’57, a former family and probate judge in Massachusetts, has
written his first novel, Old City Hall. Visit www.oldcityhallanovel.com for more information. |

"The
Time Of His Coming"
by Michael Vilardi
Xlibris Corporation.
$20.99. ISBN: 978-1599269436 |
Over the last several years the world
has experienced some of the worst natural disasters ever. These
events were predicted years ago by Jesus Christ who said this:
..... and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning
of sorrows. The Tsunami was one of the worst earthquakes ever recorded.
It was an underwater earthquake that was so powerful it wobbled
the earth on its axis. The hurricanes that just hit the United
States of America caused more damage than any other in the history
of the country. Within weeks, Katrina hit New Orleans then Rita
hit Texas. People all over the world are wondering what is happening.
Michael Vilardi attempts to answer that question in his new book
,The Time of His Coming. It is the fictionalized account of the
return of Jesus Christ and all the events that precede it. Vilardi
breaks down the biblical timeframe for all these events then explains
why God will allow them to happen. The book starts off by explaining
the timeframes of the events that must occur. He explains why the
bible says that certain people will be saved from the more severe
disasters. Vilardi explains what will happen to the United States
,the European Common Market and Israel. Vilardi breaks down all
the biblical events that must occur before Christ can return. Events
such as the Rapture, The Tribulation period , The AntiChrist, the
False prophet, the two witnesses appearing and Daniel´s 70th week.
Vilardi explains why the events happen in the order that they do
and what the purpose of each event is. If you ever wanted to know
all of the events that will happen before Christ returns then this
is the book for you!! This book is quickly being billed as "The
book that will change the World". A Must Read for anyone interested
in Future Events. The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge)

"The
Election After Reform"
Edited by Michael J. Malbin, with contributions by Raymond
La Raja
Rowman & Littlefield
Publishers, Inc.
$32.95. ISBN: 978-0-7425-3870-2 |
Claims and counterclaims flew during
debates over the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002. Some said
the law would undermine the political parties, weaken free speech,
curtail competition, and strengthen the very interest groups it
was meant to weaken. Others said the law would do nothing of the
sort: it would root out a serious problem, the parties would be
fine, and the system would thrive. Reality, it turns out, was more
complex than either position. The Election After Reform is the
first serious book to get beyond speculations by looking at real
evidence-the first elections under the new law. From it, the reader
learns not only about the politics of 2004 but how to begin assessing
the effects of reform.
Raymond La Raja is an assistant proffessor
of political science. |
