Michael F. Ellis was born March 7, 1979,
in Weymouth, graduated from Boston College High School in 1997, and
will complete a BFA in painting and a BA in art history at UMass in
May 2002. "As of today, I paint with life as the source of inspiration,"
he writes in an artist's statement. "Nineteenth-century architect,
artist, and critic John Ruskin has said, 'The teaching of art is the
teaching of all things.'

| Likewise, I believe the creation of art comes from a grasp not only of formal elements but also of the world in which we live. 'UMass Intersection' was created over the course of two months, | ![]() |
in July and August 2001. A very careful preliminary sketch was done on site, from nature. The painting was carried out mainly from life with some reference to photographs." |
UMass Intersection commissioned and presented in UMass Magazine by BPG Associates and its client, The Barletta Company.
